Nadawa family needs help after they lost everything in a fire

Home destroyed in the fire at Lumi Road in Nadawa on Friday night.

A mother is pleading for help and basic items for her and her two sons as all their belongings were destroyed in the fire at Lumi Road in Nadawa on Friday night.

Kavita Devi says they have moved in with her mother for now but they need help.

Fijivillage has contacted the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation.

Devi says that they are still in disbelief and cannot sleep well after the fire.

Meanwhile, Devi has praised her 10 year old son for his efforts to call out for help, which saved the lives of his father and his 1 year 9 months old baby brother.

The fire destroyed 3 flats and partially destroyed a flat in Nadawa on Friday night.

Earlier this morning, Devi’s husband was taken in for questioning at the Valelevu Police Station on allegations that he had intentionally started the fire.

The owner of the house that was destroyed in a fire at Lumi Road, Nadawa on Friday night is being questioned regarding allegations that he had intentionally started the fire.

Police say he is being questioned at the Valelevu Police Station.

Police had earlier said that the 33-year-old man who was at home with his two children when the fire started managed to escape from the kitchen.

An eyewitness whose house is opposite the fire incident, says he heard an explosion and shortly after the house was engulfed in flames.

Three houses were destroyed while a house was partially destroyed in this fire incident leaving 17 people homeless.
