Residents of Nacula Village in Labasa are preparing to move to an evacuation centre after heavy rain caused water levels to rise rapidly into their compounds.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Kalisi Dikinita highlighted that the flooding began at around 8am this morning after persistent rain throughout yesterday morning.
She says that although the water has not entered her home, it has already reached the compound and continues to rise.
She adds that there are only three houses in their area, and they are waiting for a decision to relocate to the evacuation centre.
Kalisi says that flooding in the area occurs almost every year, especially when the Nasekula floodgate becomes blocked.
She says her family of 15 is already preparing to move their belongings to higher ground as the water level continues to rise.
