A team from the New Zealand police have arrived in Fiji as part of a homicide inquiry into the death of a South Auckland woman burnt alive on a Waikato roadside.
28 year old Ranjeeta Sharma was found burned to death near Huntly last Thursday and her husband, Devesh Kumar Sharma is in police custody in Fiji after flying out of New Zealand the day after his wife's body was discovered.
TVNZ reports Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall saying that they are concentrating on talking to the woman's husband and establishing ongoing care and protection of the couple's child.
Sergeant Keall said the other focus of the team will be speaking to the boy's father and it is still too early to tell what processes will be undertaken once the investigation team has spoken to him.
He said any return of Devesh Sharma to New Zealand, will be dictated by process. He said the New Zealand Police team has received the full cooperation of not only the Fijian authorities but a number of other New Zealand government agencies and members of the public.
Devesh Sharma also known as Daniel, was caught in hiding with his and Ranjeeta's four year old son in Rakiraki yesterday.
It is believed he was arrested after a tipoff.
The 4 year old child is now staying with relatives and is said to be in good health.
