Vegetable supply is expected to improve from this month, however prices will remain high as farmers continue to feel the impact of the rising cost of living and fuel prices.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Sigatoka Market Vendors Association President Krishna Sharma says farms were damaged due to TC Vaianu but are now recovering well.

He says fuel prices have increased, and because of that, the cost of irrigation and transportation has also gone up.

Sharma says people are not earning much, and it is now difficult to make a living as there have been many days where vendors have made sales of only about $10.

Sharma says the government should look into reducing VAT and the cost of living.

He suggests VAT should be reduced to about 9 percent as this will help resolve many issues.
