The independent fire assessor from New Zealand, has been engaged to provide a comprehensive assessment of the Rarawai Mill fire incident.

Permanent Secretary for Ministry of Sugar Industry, Dr. Vinesh Kumar visited the Rarawai Mill to witness first-hand the damage caused by the recent fire and to review progress on restoration works.

Fiji Sugar Corporation further confirms that power had been restored to key areas of the site through the deployment of portable containerized generators.

The Permanent Secretary observed that FSC had already removed all burnt equipment and panels from the affected section of the mill.

Dr. Kumar emphasised to the General Manager of Rarawai Mill, Iliyaz Khan about the importance of expediting all possible works to ensure the mill is brought back into operation at the earliest opportunity.

Following the inspection, the Permanent Secretary convened a meeting at FSC Headquarters with the CEO and the senior management team.

Ministry of Sugar states that the discussions focused on the restoration of Rarawai as well as ensuring uninterrupted operations at Lautoka Mill to minimize disruptions for farmers.

They reaffirm their commitment, together with FSC and other stakeholders, to ensuring that farmers are supported during this challenging period and that every effort is made to restore mill operations in the shortest possible time.
