Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad

National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad says they didn’t blame Government through their press statement regarding the removal of last Friday’s parliamentary agenda after Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum raised in parliament that the article has been made out by NFP as it is some clandestine approach by government to try and sabotage last Friday’s agenda.

Prasad says he was on a chain of emails that agreed to remove last Friday’s agenda from the Order Paper when Parliament resumed this week however they never suggested for the removal of last Friday’s agenda.

The NFP Leader says the Speaker is the Chair of the Business Committee and they communicated to him their concerns and did not take the cue from the Government or SODELPA.

Sayed-Khaiyum said in parliament last night that Prasad and Qereqeretabua were also emailed about last Friday's agenda and SODELPA Whip, Lynda Tabuya had said not to go ahead with last Friday's agenda, however a statement from NFP did not have this information.

He says instead, the NFP through General Secretary, Seini Nabou released a statement saying Professor Prasad will not be able to highlight sugar issues after the sudden removal of agenda items.

Sayed-Khaiyum says Tabuya was the first person to respond in the email, and he has questioned why the article from NFP did not have this information if they felt the need to go to the media.

Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Secretariat is yet to respond to our questions regarding the removal of last Friday’s agenda. They acknowledged receipt of the questions and said they will advise once a response is received.
