National Fire Authority is calling on residential property owners to ensure that their premises are fully fire safety compliant.

This was after a residential property was engulfed in flames last week in Nausori, which led to the second fire fatality this year where a 51-year-old man lost his life.

NFA CEO Puamau Sowane says the property owners must ensure that any electrical work carried out is done by licensed contractors.

Puamau says they must also ensure that certified building materials are used in any construction work on their property and that such materials are fire safety compliant.

He says there is another trend that is a worrying NFA in terms of residential property fires is the use of mosquito coils.

He adds they have witnessed that some recent residential fires have been caused by mosquito coils.

Puamau says in the event of a fire incident, please quickly call 910 and give the firefighters the quickest opportunity to attend to a fire incident.
