As the radiant glow of Diwali lights up Suva, a determined mother of six is selling lotus flowers with hope and heart, not just to support her family, but to share the spirit of unity and love that defines the Festival of Lights.

While speaking to fijivillage News, 50-year-old resident of Narere, Venina Marama says this Diwali, she is selling lotus flowers to support her family as many Hindus consider it an auspicious flower for the festival.

Marama says she gets the lotus flowers from the Muanikoso Pond and emphasizes their cultural and religious significance, especially during Diwali pooja in Hindu homes.

Offering lotus flower in Diwali puja brings wealth, positivity, and spiritual purity.

She adds that all the income generated from the sale of lotus flowers will go towards her grocery shopping.

Marama adds that the lotus flowers she sells come in different colors, which include pink, blue, and white.

50-year-old Marama urges members of the public this festive season to support small flower vendors and buy lotus flowers.

Meanwhile, Tacirua East resident Shakuntala Chand says she is looking forward to celebrating Diwali with her family and friends.

She shared that preparations at her home are going well, and she plans to continue making traditional sweets this afternoon.

Chand adds that she is also searching for the perfect Diwali outfit to wear tomorrow.

Diwali will be celebrated tomorrow while Govardhan Pooja and Bhai Duj will be celebrated on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
