'Most one-sided heavyweight fight I've seen' – Eddie Hearn

One of world boxing’s leading promoters has called Deontay Wilder’s upset loss Joseph Parker as the most one-sided heavyweight fight they have ever seen.

Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua’s promoter, as good as admitted Parker’s unanimous points victory in Saudi Arabia had thrown a spanner in the works for Joshua’s proposed fight with Wilder in March.

Respected boxing writer Donald McRae suggested in The Guardian that Parker could be Joshua’s next opponent.

McRae says Joshua will need to prove that he can produce a performance of similar authority against far superior opposition to Wallin.

He says Parker is the obvious next step but that potential rematch between the two men would again be a risk for Joshua.

“In an embarrassingly one-sided fight, with Wilder looking a shell of his former self as his technical flaws were accentuated more graphically than ever before, Parker boxed with composure and belief to receive the unanimous verdict by overwhelming margins of 118-111, 118-110 and 120-108.”

Women’s world featherweight champion Amanda Serrano took to social media to say: “Horrible performance by Wilder. I gave him NOT a single round.”

The Daily Mail reported that some social media posters were surprised by 38-year-old Wilder’s skinny legs, with one writing: “Wilder’s legs are like 2 McDonald’s straws’’.

But, the Parker result “not only throws a spanner in the words there, but casts a huge shadow over the assertion made by some that Wilder and Tyson Fury were a level above Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk in the heavyweight pecking order”.
