There has been a major boost to Fiji’s efforts to contain COVID-19 as the Health Ministry today received over $510,000 worth of COVID-19 relief supplies from the US.

Minister of Health Ifereimi Waqainabete says the assistance will uplift the containment efforts of COVID-19 for frontline workers.

Waqainabete says these items will be also used for community fever screening.

He says the US government has given a total of $690,000 for COVID-19 relief support and $189,000 for the disciplinary forces personnel protective equipment.

The US Chargè d Affairs Tony Greubel says the donation consists of personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies including 5,536 litres of hand sanitizers manufactured by Paradise Beverages, 3,560 boxes of sanitizing wipes, 34,860 face masks, 2,015 surgical gowns and 201,000 hand gloves.

Greubel says the donation also includes 75 portable generators and 37 mini iPads.
