The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport Shaheen Ali says they have warned some Bars and Taverns for non-compliance in Suva however none have been told to shut down.

Ali says they have completed around 80 inspections of Bars and Taverns and this was done together with the Fiji Police Force.

He says it was found during the inspections that the Vax-Check tool was not being used, the 80 percent capacity was not implemented, there was poor adherence to the wearing of masks inside the premises and people were not practicing the mandatory 2 metres distancing.

He says on some occasions, they saw customers sharing the same glass while drinking.

Ali says they have spoken to the managements of these Bars and Taverns.

Ali further says as ambassadors, they usually have a partnership approach where they try to educate businesses and get them to adhere to the protocols in place.

He says they will only take action when there is a blatant disregard.
