The Ministry of Agriculture is targeting to assist another 47,350 families under their Home Gardening Programme and 500 women through their Women in Agriculture Program. Minister for Agriculture, Doctor Mahendra Reddy says they provided seed packages to households in urban and peri-urban areas around Fiji and as of today, 77,888 households have been assisted under this program.

He says this initiative will greatly enhance food security by giving people direct access to nutritionally rich foods, increased purchasing power from savings on food bills and fall-back food provision due to the potential decrease in production and trade caused by COVID-19.

Reddy says under their Women in Agriculture program which has an increased allocation of $300,000 in this financial year, they are aiming to support more women with nursery materials, small farm tools and planting materials to ensure they achieve success in their ventures, especially through these trying times.
