The Ministry of Local Government today launched the Peri-Urban and Municipal Household Solid Waste Collection Services which will see the municipal councils putting skip bins in settlements and villages.

Local Government Minister, Praveen Bala officiated at the launch of this initiative at Vunileba Settlement in Tacirua this afternoon.

He says the government has decided to activate waste collection services in peri-urban areas as these settlements currently do not have a structured system of rubbish collection.

Bala says they are looking at providing this service in 20 peri-urban areas in the Central Division and will slowly move to other Divisions.

The Municipal Councils will be collecting rubbish from these areas on a weekly basis and the service is currently being provided at no cost to the residents.
