Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Heavy Rain for parts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Heavy Rain is now in force for interior and southern parts of Viti Levu from Korolevu, interior of Ba, interior Nadroga-Navosa, Sigatoka-Coral coast, interior Serua-Namosi,and Southeastern parts of Vanua Levu from Southern Bua to Cakaudrove.

The Nadi Weather Office says a northerly wind flow prevails over Fiji, bringing unstable weather conditions.

Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected, with heavy rainfall likely over the interior and southern parts of Viti Levu and southeastern Vanua Levu.

They say Severe Thunderstorms are expected to produce heavy rain which may lead to flash-flooding of low-lying areas in the next few hours over interior and southern parts of Viti Levu from Korolevu, interior of Ba, interior Nadroga-Navosa, Sigatoka-Coral coast, interior Serua-Namosi, and Southeastern parts of Vanua Levu from Southern Bua to Cakaudrove.

People are advised to keep clear of flooded creeks and drains, not to walk, ride bike or drive through flood waters, unplug computers and appliances, stay indoors away from windows and keep children indoors, stay vigilant and monitor conditions.

Thunderstorm activity and associated heavy rainfall is expected until late afternoon or evening.
