Minister for Local Government and Education Premila Kumar says they have seen that sometimes flooding occurs in settlements and low lying areas because people throw garbage in the drain.

She highlighted this during her visit to Ba Muslim Primary School where concerns were raised regarding flooding due to drainage problems.

Kumar has told the school that so much energy is wasted every year in moving things up and down because of flooding and it would be better just to clear the drains.

She says the better option would be to involve the community to clean the drains

Kumar adds she will be talking to the Ba Municipal Council to assist.

She adds she will instruct the Municipal Council to help the school in whichever way they can.
