Tuesday’s victory aboard Gold Trip was a Melbourne Cup redemption story for Mark Zahra, who last year was suspended for his part in an infamous Airbnb party amongst jockeys that breached Covid-19 restrictions.
Had it not been for the three-month suspension, Zahra would have almost certainly been aboard 2021 Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant.
Zahra says he feels like crying, it is unbelievable.
He says Gold trip is a horse that when you go, you don’t give him a chance to think about it,
He says he was just elated when he crossed the line and says what an amazing feeling.
