Former Flying Fijian Josh Matavesi is backing Fiji to make a major impact in the new Eight Nations tournament despite the squad never having trained under new coach Vern Cotter and nearly a year having passed since they played a test fixture.

Matavesi told RugbyPass that many of the Fiji players in Europe are the best at their clubs and it is great to be involved in the Eight Nations tournament.

He says the benefits that come with being in this tournament will be fantastic for the boys and the player pool will grow with more fixtures and they will get even better.

Matavesi adds he hopes the boys go out and be brave, show their style of play.

Matavesi who retired from international rugby after the World Cup last year says if Vern Cotter wants him then they can have a conversation.

Fiji will begin the Autumn Nations Cup against France on Sunday 15th November.

Fiji will then meet Italy on 21st November before travelling to Murrayfield to play Scotland in the final round on the 28th of November.
