In a landmark shift aimed at promoting academic excellence, 98 students from Year 9 to Year 13 at Marist Brothers High School have been awarded badges for outstanding academic performance.
The students were recognised during the school’s first-ever Marist Academic Excellence Induction Ceremony, which the school says is the first of its kind in Fiji and in its 89-year history.
Head Boy Isoa Dakunimata, one of the Year 13 academic champions, said his achievement is a result of hard work and personal sacrifice.
Dakunimata also encouraged students to remain committed to their goals and to stay spiritually grounded, as challenges are a natural part of the journey to success.
School Principal Asish Dayal says the ceremony marks a new direction for secondary education in the country, describing it as a “landmark moment” in the school’s long-standing legacy.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro, who officiated the event, praised Marist Brothers High School as a strong learning community and said its students are the leaders of tomorrow.
He highlighted that the school’s inclusive academic approach ensures no student is left behind.
Radrodro also reaffirmed the government’s commitment through the $847 million education budget, which focuses on academic excellence and infrastructure development for students across Fiji.
