Flood waters rising in parts of Nadi

As heavy rain continues in many parts of the country, many roads are affected by flood waters in Ba, Lautoka, Tavua and Rakiraki.

Parts of Kings Road before Matawailevu Junction, Rabulu Village and Vunitogoloa Bridge in Rakiraki are flooded.

Other areas affected are Katudrau Crossing along Mead Road, Waimari Road, Korotale Road, Naqoro Flats, Mataniwai Road, Yaladro Road, Rakiraki Access Road Flats, Vatukacevaceva Road and Nacovu Crossing.

Other areas flooded are Nadarivatu Road, Balata Flats, Marinitawa Road, Koronubu Road, Dramasi Road Crossing 1 and 3, Cemetery Road in Varadoli, Vuda Back Road, Vuda Back Road Crossing, Navula Road, Vaivai Road, Drasa Dam Road, Saru Back Road, Uluisila Road, Narara Road, Nadelei Road, Namunamu Road, Maururu Crossing, Yaladro Road near Tavua Town, Tavualevu Road, Rukuruku Flats, Korotale Road and Drana Crossing.

Waters are also rising in parts of Nadi.

The National Disaster Management Office is closely working with the Fiji Meteorological Services as latest weather forecasts have indicated that the current adverse weather condition is expected to persist over the Fiji Group until the weekend.

NDMO Director, Vasiti Soko says the NDMO continues to strongly urge the general public to continue to ensure that they are well prepared as we are still in the peak of the current cyclone season.

Soko says we are still not out of the woods yet.

Please ensure that you stay up-to-date with the latest weather information released by the Fiji Met Service and continue to adhere to all advisories issued by authorities.

The Fiji NDMO pleads with the general public to refrain from swimming, fishing or undertaking any recreational marine activity along coastal areas as hazardous breaking waves are expected – placing people’s lives at risk.

Soko says with continuous rain recorded in the last couple of days and with already saturated soil, they also call on the general public to be vigilant as there are possible risks of landslides occurring in some areas.
