Many people in Fiji have been alive today through unpaid blood donors.

This was highlighted by the Minister for Health, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete following a march in Suva City this morning to mark the World Blood Donor Day celebration.

Dr Waqainabete says many people are alive today because somebody has donated blood for them and the fact that nothing can replace the purity of blood itself.

He says during the spread of COVID-19, blood was needed for patients with serious cases around the country.

He adds we get to know how important blood is when a family member is admitted in a hospital.

The Minister for Health says they are thankful to those donating blood and those that took part in this morning’s march.

He is urging members of the public to come in numbers and donate blood to save people’s lives.
