Tomasi Tuirabe

Tomasi Tuirabe, who stole a Samsung Galaxy S22 phone from a shop in the Central Division on June 13th, will be sentenced on the 20th of October.

Tuirabe told the court that he sold the phone, which was worth $4,000 for merely $100.

The phone has not been recovered as the receiver is currently on the run.

Magistrate Yogesh Prasad stressed that receivers should also be punished as they encourage theft.

The 23-year-old sought forgiveness from the court and the complainant.

Tuirabe asked if he could work and pay for the phone.

However, Magistrate Prasad says he can't allow that to happen because there is a risk of absconding.
