A 37-year-old man is charged with raping his 12-year-old niece and allegedly getting her pregnant will be produced in the Labasa Magistrates Court today.
Police say the girl has been staying with the accused and her grandmother since her parents passed away.
They say after allegedly committing the offence sometime in October last year, the man had warned her not to tell anyone.
The matter came to light when the girl complained of having a stomach ache and was taken to the Seaqaqa Health Station, where the pregnancy was confirmed.
Police say the girl has been placed in the care of Fiji Women's Crisis Centre staff.
