A man will appear in the Lautoka Magistrates Court today after he was charged with allegedly assaulting his 40-year-old sister-in-law last Saturday.

The man been charged with one count of assault.

Divisional Police Commander Western Iakobo Vaisewa says a report was filed at the Lautoka Police Station.

The woman, Tokasa Navuniyaca alleges she was assaulted by the accused who is believed to be her husband’s brother.

She told fijivillage News that she went to file a report with Lautoka Police Station on Saturday afternoon but was asked to get a medical report, and later told that police will be visiting her home that afternoon.

While sharing her concerns on her Facebook page, the 40-year-old woman, who is originally from Ra, believes that the Police officer took her report and kept it in the drawer on Saturday.

While responding to the questions sent to the Police, they say once they have more information, they will be in a better position to respond.

They also say that if there is an element of laxity on the part of the officer involved, he or she will be investigated by the Internal Affairs Unit.
