A man in his 40s allegedly stabbed another man several times with a pair of scissors during an argument in Caubati New Subdivision, with police saying both men were heavily intoxicated at the time.
Police say the incident occurred on Saturday and involved a 26-year-old man, who was allegedly stabbed several times during the confrontation.
They say the suspect also sustained injuries in the ensuing scuffle, and both men were taken to CWM Hospital for treatment.
The suspect was later discharged from hospital and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The incident is one of two recent cases being highlighted by the Fiji Police Force as a reminder of the dangers associated with excessive alcohol consumption, particularly its potential to contribute to violence and other offences.
In a separate incident, a 40-year-old man was arrested in Lami on Monday night for allegedly drinking alcohol in a public place.
Police say he is further alleged to have assaulted a police officer, damaged police uniforms, and verbally abused and threatened officers at the scene.
The man has been charged with one count each of drinking in a public place, serious assault, damaging property, and criminal intimidation.
He is expected to appear at the Suva Magistrates Court today.
Police are again urging members of the public to consume alcohol responsibly and in moderation, warning that excessive drinking can impair judgment and contribute to violence, disorder, and other threats to public safety.
