It has been almost 7 months since the murder of Lami Police Constable Peniasi Racagi, and people are raising concern on why no charges have been laid against anyone after the two men earlier charged were discharged following the withdrawal of the charges by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Office of the DPP was waiting for the post mortem report and DNA evidence which was sent to Australia for testing in relation to the murder.
When contacted by fijivillage News, the Office of the DPP says the matter is currently under review in accordance with the ODPP standard procedures after they received the forensic evidence.
They say such matters can take time, and it is important that we do not rush the process or make a decision before all relevant evidence has been properly assessed.
The ODPP says all available evidence, including the new forensic evidence will be considered collectively before a conclusion is reached.
Once the review is completed and a decision is made, the recommendations will be forwarded to the Fiji Police Force.
24 year old Constable Racagi was murdered in Lami on the 22nd of February this year.
The charges against the two men were withdrawn after delays by police in submitting supporting documents to prosecutors.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu had earlier said that he accepts full responsibility on behalf of the organisation for the delay in submitting documents required by the prosecution.
Tudravu confirmed that pending investigation reports and expert findings will be resubmitted, while the investigation file relating to the alleged involvement of police officers will also be forwarded to the ODPP for review before independent legal advice is rendered.
Police had earlier stated that their investigations focused into two avenues of the officer's death and Police involvement.
