A man has been sentenced to five years imprisonment for raping his neighbour at a settlement in Nasinu.

He raped the 39-year-old woman while she was sleeping with her husband in her house on 6th May 2019.

The 23-year-old man had fled the house when the woman had shouted and raised the alarm.

While sentencing the man, High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo said peace and harmony among neighbours demands respect and kindness to others, however, the man showed utter disrespect to the woman by going where she was sleeping with her husband and committed the offence.

A non-parole has not been imposed.
