A man is currently receiving care at Lautoka Hospital following an injury at the Lautoka Mill and Fiji Sugar Corporation says a thorough review of the incident is being undertaken to ensure ongoing safety and reliability across their milling network.
FSC CEO Bhan Pratap Singh says the man was engaged in the routine clearing of bagasse from a conveyor belt when the injury occurred yesterday.
Singh says immediate medical attention was provided.
He says their thoughts are with him and his family, and FSC is extending full support during his recovery.
The CEO says in the course of ensuring a safe and efficient rescue, the conveyor belt system was carefully dismantled to allow for immediate access.
Singh says while this safety-first response has led to a temporary halt in milling operations, FSC commends and is deeply grateful for the swift and coordinated action of the emergency and mill teams on the ground.
He says repairs to the conveyor system are actively underway and the estimated timeframe for completion is approximately 36 hours.
Singh says Lautoka Mill is projected to resume crushing operations by mid-to-late afternoon tomorrow.
He says as a precautionary measure, harvesting operations across all sectors have been temporarily suspended until operations recommence.
The CEO says lorry drivers who were in the mill yard at the time of the incident have been safely transported home.
He says FSC remains committed to the highest standards of workplace safety and operational resilience.
