A 24-year old man is in police custody at the Totogo Police Station following the death of a 25-year-old man.

It is alleged the suspect stabbed the victim at around 6pm Saturday outside Suva Harbour Centre during a dispute.

The suspect and the victim allegedly exchanged heated words leading up to the incident.

The victim was rushed to the CWM Hospital where he was admitted, and later passed away.

A post mortem will be conducted today as investigations continue.

When asked on Police operations and patrols as this tragic stabbing occurred in the heart of the city on Saturday, Chief of Operations, ACP Livai Driu says Police are deployed throughout the City but cannot be static in one location as they cover a vast area of operation. ACP Driu says Police have on numerous occassions reiterated the message of solving issues in an amicable manner and not resorting to violence.

He says while they do not want to prejudice the investigation, initial investigations revealed that it is alcohol related resulting in the heated exchange of words.

ACP Driu says alcohol related incidents often record a spike during the festive season, and they caution members of the public to take responsibility for their actions by not over-indulging in alcohol as it will lead to injury and unfortunately on some occasions, the loss of life.
