The man alleged to have sexually assaulted his niece in Labasa has been charged with one count of sexual assault and was produced at the Labasa Magistrates Court on Friday.

Police say that on the 6th of this month, it was alleged that the accused, who was staying with the victim’s family, had entered the victim’s room she was sharing with her sister whilst they were sleeping and committed the alleged offence.

They say the victim then alerted her parents about the incident.

Police say the accused has been bailed with the sum of $500 with strict bail conditions and the case has been adjourned to the 30th of July 2024 for plea.

An interim Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) has been placed against the accused.
