Man charged for allegedly scamming Back to School Funds through MPaisa

A 35-year-old man has been charged by the Fiji Police MPaisa Task Force for allegedly obtaining money meant for the Back to School Education Assistance.

He is charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage by deception and will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Police says the man had allegedly unlawfully obtained money between the 6th to 30th of January this year from a member of public through the MPaisa platform.

In another case, 21-year-old Abhishek Avinash Sami is also charged with one count of obtaining financial advantage through deception for allegedly unlawfully obtained money meant for Back To School Education assistance from a member of the public through the MPaisa platform in Ba last month.

He has been granted bail and the matter has been adjourned to the 15th of July.
