Melanesian leaders from around the region have begun their two day meeting in Honiara this morning which will kick off with a reconciliation ceremony between Fiji and Vanuatu.
The Solomon Star reported that Melanesian Spearhead Group special envoy Patterson Oti confirmed that traditional chiefs from the two countries will engage in a reconciliation ceremony over the MSG chairmanship which will be handed over to Fiji from Vanuatu.
Six custom chiefs will perform a custom ceremony to reconcile Vanuatu with Fiji, donating pigs with tusks, mats, kava and food.
Oti confirmed apart from talks on strengthening bilateral relations between the Melanesian countries, the leaders would also endorse the reconciliation rite between Fiji and Vanuatu as they put their differences behind and look forward in strengthening the MSG.
