For the first time ever, the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School’s U18 Rugby team is going overseas to participate in the Sanix World Rugby Invitational Tournament in Japan.

This is a big achievement for MGM High School and the U18 Rugby team.

School Principal Sanjay Raman says the invitation for this tournament is accorded to the winners of the U17 Deans Trophy last year and the team has prepared well under the guidance of the coach Koroi Matadigo.

Raman says they are preparing for the departure as well as team bonding.

He says they aim to participate and give their best during the tournament.

Winger Viliame Lotawa who gave MGM their historic win last year as he kicked the winning penalty to give MGM a one point victory over Ratu Kadavulevu School is going to participate at this tournament.

Attending the tournament are 30 players, Team Manager Hotashwar Padarath, Coach Koroi Matadigo, PEMAC Head of Department Deve Koroi, trainer Luke, and Principal Sanjay Raman.

Meanwhile, the U18 team presented their iTautau at the State House on Tuesday to get the blessings of the President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere as they head to Japan for the Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament 2024.

Ratu Wiliame encouraged the players to recognise that they are not just representing their team but personifying the values of resilience, teamwork, and passion for the game.

The Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament 2024 will be held from this Sunday to next Sunday.
