Former Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s rep and Paris Olympics silver medallist Ponipate Loganimasi was the toast of his Fijian Drua 7s side as he slotted a penalty kick at goal at the stroke of full time to help his side secure an 8-5 win over the BLK Lavidi Brothers in the second quarter final of the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s Men’s competition.

Both teams were locked at 5-all at halftime and none of them could score a single point in the second half until after the siren sounded when the referee awarded a penalty to the Drua 7s 30 metres out from the try line.

Loganimasi did not hesitate as he pointed to the post and took the kick to break the hearts of the BLK Lavidi Brothers side.

Meanwhile, in the 1st quarter final, the Manu Samoa 7s side caused a major upset as they defeated NZ 1 21-12.

In the third quarter final, the McDonald’s Mike Friday Selects side defeated Brothers 17-14 and the Fiji 7s edged Devo Babas 19-12 in the last quarter final.

The Men’s semi finals will be at 12.30pm tomorrow and the final will be at 5pm tomorrow.

In the Youth grade, Tubarua Youth will play Southland Broncos in the first semi final, and Bilo Bar Aflame Brothers will play Dominion Brothers in the second semi final.

The Youth semi finals will begin at 11.50am tomorrow and the Youth final will be at 4.30pm tomorrow.

The Women’s semi finals will kick off at 11.10am tomorrow and the final will begin at 4pm tomorrow.
