SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka

SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka says liquor is not a simple matter for the people of Fiji.

While opposing the Liquor Amendment Bill, Gavoka says we are making it easy to make alcohol available to the people when we know the danger of the abuse of alcohol.

Gavoka says the Opposition also wants an increase in revenue but in a responsible manner and not to destroy the society.

He further says there should have been consultation on this amendment.

Gavoka also questioned to the boards that used to hear all these applications and they would go through the process and then make the decision.

He says will the Minster now be the only one to decide if it is a yes or a no.

Gavoka further says now they have come to a new low when they are given a Bill at 9.20pm on a Wednesday and to be debated and made into law the next day. Gavoka adds whatever the Opposition says to try and improve the process is like talking to a wall.

He claimed that the people of Fiji are the losers because they elected a government that is so casual in the way they manage the parliament of the people of Fiji.

Gavoka called on the government to respect the people.
