Leakages along Nokonoko Rd and Ratu Dovi Rd to be fixed after concerns raised by road users

After raising concerns about leaking pipes in Raiwaqa and Nokonoko Road in Laucala Beach, the Water Authority of Fiji says pipe leaks along Nokonoko Road and Ratu Dovi Road opposite Extra Supermarket will be fixed yesterday while the leakage along Bryce Street was repaired on Wednesday night.

When questioned why it was not fixed for a few weeks, WAF says they are required to work with the Fiji Roads Authority when the road carriageway is required to be excavated to carry out repairs.

They say before the repairs, WAF will seek the FRA’s approval to carry out the partial closure of the road before carrying out repair works.

WAF says the approvals for partial road closure and opening of the road carriageway have been provided by FRA and WAF is carrying out preparatory works for the repairs.

They further say the volume of water loss due to leakage on pipelines varies depending on the size of the pipeline, the type of fault (hairline fracture or major failure) or available pressure at the location of the fault.

They add each fault has its unique flow rate hence averaging it out cannot be easily done.

The Water Authority loses 46 percent of treated water because of leaking pipes.
