A team of 30 representatives from the Lau Care Committee visited inmates who are from the Lau Group in Naboro, Suva and the Nasinu Corrections Centre.

The visit was to find out if the inmates have any questions about them returning to their communities or villages when they are released.

The visit was also on how the committee can assist these inmates.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed last year between the Fiji Corrections Service and the Lau Care Committee to minimize the number of offenders from the Lau Group.

Chairman of the Lau Provincial Council, Ilisoni Taoba says the MOU will enable the Corrections Service to work with the Lau Provincial Council in setting up programs that will enable offenders and ex-offenders to live a better life when they are released from prison.

The Lau Care Network is a committee that deals with setting up programs to help offenders get back on their feet when they are released from prison.

The Lau Care Network was setup in 2018.
