Labasa lawyer Ami Kohli appointed as Electoral Commission member

Labasa lawyer, Ami Kohli has been appointed as a member of the Electoral Commission.

The Constitutional Offices Commission says this appointment is made in accordance with section 75(7) of the Constitution by the President on the advice of the Commission.

This appointment is made with immediate effect. The Commission says Kohli is an experienced senior lawyer who is currently the Principal at Kohli & Singh law firm in Labasa.

He completed his education at the University of the South Pacific and the University of Otago, graduating in a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Laws respectively.

His professional career began with positions at Kohli & Company, Smart, Bailey & Shera, and as a sole practitioner.

From 1996 to 2019, he worked in partnership with Raman Pratap Singh. In addition to his legal career, Kohli has held significant leadership roles in various community organizations, including Labasa Soccer, Labasa Golf Club, the Rotary Club, and the Festival of Friendly North Association.

He continues to serve as a trustee of the Festival of Friendly North Association.

He had also served as the Chairman of the Labasa Hospital Board of Visitors, where he played an instrumental role in several important developments at the hospital.
