Vancouver 7s: Japan beat Fijiana 19-14 in first pool match

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side lost to Japan 19-14 in their first match at the HSBC Vancouver 7s this morning.

Fiji started strong with two tries to Lavena Cavuru and Ilisapeci Delaiwau to lead 14-0 at halftime.

Japan started the second half strong with a try to Mayu Yoshino, followed by another try from Minako Taniyama in the 12th minute.

Honoka Tsutsumi sealed Japan's victory with a try in the 13th minute.

Indiscipline cost the Fijiana the match as Lavena Cavuru and Reapi Ulunisau were shown a yellow card.

The next match for Fijiana is against France at 3.52pm today, and they will play Great Britain at 9.18am tomorrow in their last pool match.

The women's cup quarter-finals will kick off at 3.32pm Sunday, the semi-finals will begin at 9.14am Monday, and the cup final will kick off at 1.41pm.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Men's National 7s team will face the USA at 12.45pm today in their second match before playing Spain at 6.52am tomorrow in their last pool match.

The men's cup quarter-finals will kick off at 12.51pm tomorrow, the cup semi-finals will begin at 8.30am Monday, and the Cup Final will kick off at 1.05pm Monday.
