Koroi wants to win gold at Coca Cola Games to prove parents wrong

Winning a gold medal in the Coca Cola Games and proving his parents wrong is a goal that 19-year-old Tailevu North College student Watisoni Koroi has set this year.

While speaking to fijivillage Sports after winning gold in the Coca Cola Tailevu Zone 1500 metres event, Koroi says he just wants to prove to his parents that athletics is his passion.

He says he has been doing his training in the early hours of the morning and late at night so that his parents do not see him.

He adds his main challenge and obstacle was trying to get his family to support his journey, and he wants to do that in this year’s Coke Games.

The Nailega, Korovou, Tailevu young man was full of confidence after his race, and he says that this is an opportunity for him and also a career for him after academic year.

Koroi acknowledged all the supporters that turned up in numbers today, and also acknowledged his trainer for sticking by him.

Day 1 of the Tailevu Zone is underway at the HFC Bank Stadium with the final events of the day.

Day 2 of the Zone will start at 8am tomorrow.

We have sought updates of the medal tallies but we have been asked to wait for finalisation of a few documents.

Stay with us for updates.
