SODELPA parliamentarian Mosese Bulitavu and Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Francis Kean

Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Francis Kean asked the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights if he could not publicly address a question about a job evaluation exercise for the Fiji Corrections Service.

The question was asked by SODELPA parliamentarian Mosese Bulitavu.

In response, Kean said he wants to answer the question but not for public consumption and just for the members of the Parliamentary Committee.

The Fiji Corrections Service currently has 963 established staff and 929 are custodial officers who are on the ground.

Kean says the ratio being followed by the Fiji Corrections Service is one custodial officer for every four inmates and this is the international standard.

Kean had appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights to make a submission and respond to questions on the Fiji Corrections Service Annual Report August 2016 to 31 July 2017.
