Kavanagasau residents raise concerns regarding poor road conditions

Serious concerns have been raised by residents of Kavanagasau in Sigatoka about their poor road conditions that have caused issues like mechanical problems on most vehicles and children missing schools due to transportation being affected when it is bad weather.

A resident told fijivillage News that the flooding from last week has worsened the road condition.

He says poor drainage as well has also contributed to the poor road condition in their area. He adds farmers are facing issues reaching the market to sell their produce, and most of the produce gets damaged due to the bumpy ride. The Fiji Roads Authority says Kavanagasau is an unsealed gravel road that undergoes stress from traffic like all other unsealed roads.

FRA says they are grading the road every month to provide proper accessibility to the residents while progressive improvements like drainage works, rock breaking on hill sections and aggregate overlay on soft sections have also happened.

They say continuous rainfall has severely impacted roads throughout Fiji and they remain committed to providing proper road accessibility to all.
