Jessie Lewamoqe Kubu is eager to begin Semester 1 studies at The University of the South Pacific (USP) after registering for her units at a USP roadshow booth last Saturday.

The 18-year-old graduate of Adi Cakobau School (ACS) is pursuing a Bachelor of Science majoring in Geography and Geospatial Science at USP’s Laucala Campus in Suva.

From Navatuvula village, Naitasiri with maternal ties to Naikeleyaga, Kabara, Lau, Jessie learnt about the USP roadshow campaign online and utilised the University’s presence in towns and cities around Fiji to complete her admission process.

“I am excited and counting down the days until classes begin at USP,” she exclaimed.

“I look forward to experiencing the diversity and learning and studying alongside students and academics from the Pacific and beyond.”

Jessie said the University’s accredited programmes and global recognition were key factors in her decision to study at USP.

She highlighted that her field of study was aligned with the region’s pressing issue of climate change.

“We are at the forefront and facing the brunt of the effects of climate change. I believe that geospatial technologies will help us monitor environmental changes and allow us to support resilient communities,” she said.

“Undertaking this programme is an investment in both my academic aspirations as well as for a sustainable future for the Pacific region.”
