The wait for a first international trophy continues for Belgium as their golden generation have been beaten 2-1 by Italy in the EURO 2020 quarterfinal.

Brilliant goals from Nicolo Barella and Lorenzo Insigne gave Italy the 2-0 lead in the first half.

Romelu Lukaku pulled one back from the penalty spot just before half time as Italy led 2-1 at the break.

Belgium had several opportunities to score in the second half but there was no way past Italy’s goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Italy will now play Spain the semifinal at 7am on Wednesday.

In other quarterfinals tomorrow, the Czech Republic play Denmark at 4am while England play Ukraine at 7am.
