Ireland has secured two wins from two games in the Paris Olympics Men’s 7s competition so far and is looking good to top their pool by the end of day 1 of the competition today.

Ireland edged South Africa 10-5 in the first match before thumping Japan 40-5 in their second game.

Meanwhile, hosts France had a scrappy start to their campaign after being held to a 12-all draw against the USA and escaping with a 19-12 win over minnows Uruguay in their second pool clash.

HSBC World SVNS Series league winners Argentina recorded two comfortable wins after beating Kenya 31-12 in the first match and overcoming Samoa 28-12 in their second pool match.

Australia also had a shaky start to their campaign after escaping with a 21-14 win over Samoa in their first pool match and beating Kenya 21-7 in their second match of day 1.
