Police are still gathering statements in the case where they exhumed the body of a 7-year-old girl in Tavua last week after she was buried without a death certificate issued by the Health Ministry.

Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says they will bring in the parents for questioning after the statements have been gathered.

She says according to information gathered, the child was allegedly sick for the last three months but was never taken for medical treatment as it went against their religious beliefs.

Naisoro says the child allegedly passed away on the 23rd of February where a decision was made not to report the matter or to take the her body to the hospital.

She says the girl's parents buried her on the same day without a death certificate.
