Waidamudamu Settlement.

The residents of Waidamudamu Settlement in Nausori have witnessed an increase in criminal activities in recent months, and the Divisional Police Commander East has been directed to look into the concerns.

Community President, Mehboob Raham Ali says people have been severely affected as homes, community shops and vehicles have been targeted. People walking on the road to their homes are also being attacked and robbed.

Ali says they have informed Police and they have managed to arrest a few of the perpetrators. He says Police have also started their regular patrols in the area however the robberies and attacks continue.

Ali says a Crime Prevention Committee has been set up and they are working with the Nakasi and Nausori Police officers.

A resident, Praneet Lal says he has been living in the settlement for the past 6 years and has witnessed a lot of criminal activities in the settlement.

Lal says a police post needs to be built in the area.

He says they are usually up late in the night because of the fear of their houses being robbed.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says the Officer in Charge of the Nausori/Nakasi District will be meeting with the residents soon.

Naisoro says there have been reports and arrests made while some cases are still under investigation.
