Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry is calling on the government to increase civil servants pay.

Chaudhry says civil servants have not had any pay increments since 2017 to compensate them for increases in the cost of living.

The FLP Leader says workers in the private sector, government commercial companies or statutory bodies have been able to negotiate pay increases in the form of bonuses or productivity payments.

Chaudhry believes that civil servants and their unions have been denied their right to collective bargaining as guaranteed in the Employment Relations Act 2007.

Chaudhry says it is time now to correct the situation and accord fair treatment to Fiji’s 30,000 civil servants and members of the Disciplined Services.
