Police Chief of Operations ACP Livai Driu

The worrying trend where even primary school students have been found with marijuana and methamphetamine is a major concern for the Police as evidence continues to surface on drug dealing in primary and secondary schools, students connected to drug dealers used as peddlers and innocent children getting hooked to drugs.

While speaking on fijivillage Straight Talk With Vijay Narayan, Police Chief of Operations ACP Livai Driu says they are really worried, and individual families have to also play their part as they are seeing a serious erosion in the morals and values in our younger generation.

Reports are coming through that highly addictive drugs like meth are readily available, and labs have been found in the past in areas like the Suva to Nausori corridor and Nadi.

There has also been talk of some of the Police officers involved in the drug trade as well.

ACP Driu says no one is above the law, and any officer caught in the drug trade has been and will be taken to task.

He is urging the members of the community to pass on any information as Police cannot fight this alone.

The Chief Operations Officer says they know we are the hub of the Pacific and Fiji is very vulnerable, and they really need the assistance with the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs to link the Police to the vanua. ACP Driu stresses that they will not stop the war against drugs, and they have have a team that is conducting the operations and surveillance and getting information from the key agencies on marijuana and hard drugs.

They are also working with the Ministry of Health and Education to eradicate the thriving drug trade, however they know more needs to be done urgently.
