The Fiji Taxi Association is calling on all taxi drivers not to use their mobile phones while driving, and drivers committing this offence should be taken to task.

This was highlighted by the Association’s Secretary Ashwin Lal when questioned by fijivillage News on the video shared widely on social media where a taxi driver was watching porn while transporting a passenger.

He says the driver should be investigated and if found guilty, he should be taken to task.

Lal also apologised for the incident.

When asked about the video where a taxi driver told a passenger to pay 20 cents for the service of the air conditioner, Lal says there is no law that says that a taxi driver should turn on the air conditioner when requested by the passenger.

He says the decision lies with the driver if they want the air conditioner to be on or not, and passengers have the right to change their taxis if such services are not provided.

He is also calling on members of the public not to put their frustration on social media but to bring them to the association so they can deal with it immediately.
