Dakshay Kumar and his family are mourning the tragic death of their beloved pet dog, Oscar, who was brutally killed yesterday morning in Vatuwaqa.

Kumar says he treated Oscar like his son, and the family cremated him today at Dignified Crematorium.

Kumar says Oscar was let out into the compound for his usual morning routine and while attempting to make his way outside the compound, he got stuck in the fence.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Kumar says Oscar was stuck helplessly, waiting for help, when two drunk men came with a concrete block and struck him.

He says Oscar couldn’t even make a sound to alert them, and it was their neighbours who heard heavy stomping noises and saw Oscar being beaten brutally.

Kumar says when they rushed out, they found Oscar lying lifeless.

The owner says police asked him to bring Oscar’s license today.

He is calling for the harshest penalties to be imposed on the men responsible, saying justice must be served.

Meanwhile, Police say there are two reports.

One lodged by the owner of the dog for the alleged killing, the second by the suspect who said he was allegedly bitten by the dog.

Police say that he was taken for a medical assessment as he sustained injuries and will be questioned.
